ABOUT THE LAB

About the Laboratory

The Pattern Recognition System Laboratory studies intelligent processing that enables computers to recognize various patterns, with a focus on images. We also study human interfaces and interaction systems that communicate recognized information to users in an easy-to-understand way. We aim to develop applications that accurately recognize people in front of us and objects around us, and present information naturally and comfortably in a way suited to each person's situation. We also aspire to create artificial intelligence with a human-like mind. Our current research topics are as follows.
  • Image Recognition (person recognition, action recognition, object recognition, deep learning, and agricultural applications)
  • Image Processing (human image generation and image restoration)
  • Gaze Analysis (impressions, aesthetics, and personal attributes)
  • Human Interfaces (applications of VR, AR, and MR)
  • Interaction (group behavior analysis and recognition)
  • Signal Processing (EEG, Wi-Fi, audio, and body-sway analysis)
Together with our students, we continually learn the latest technologies while working to create technologies that have not existed before.

Please see the following page for the results of our research on each topic. Recent Research

For Students

Through graduation research and master's theses, students thoroughly develop logical thinking, software development, and communication skills that remain valuable in their professional lives.

After students join the laboratory, we decide on their research topics while listening to their interests and preferences.

Students from other universities have also entered the master's program at Tottori University and joined our laboratory. Please contact me to discuss whether we can accept you.

We provide students who continue to the master's program with opportunities to present in English at international conferences (even students who are not confident in English give good presentations after practicing). Watch their presentations here
The faculty of this laboratory have experience working in industry and can discuss professional life with our students (students can also hear from alumni if they wish).

For Working Professionals

For those considering collaborative research: We collaborate with companies to research and develop technologies that can be put into practical use in society. Please contact us if there is an opportunity to create new technologies in image recognition, pattern recognition, or human interfaces.

For those considering a doctorate: Having pursued my own doctorate while working, I can advise working professionals on how to proceed through a doctoral program. Please do not hesitate to contact me.
